Festival of Flowers 2011

The theme for the 2011 Festival of Flowers is **'burst! of water'**. The Festival of Flowers is stepping up to address the water issue, to raise awareness and educate. Water has become a critical issue globally. Although New Zealand is a water-rich nation, we also face threats to the quality and quantity of our water. The water theme will be realised aesthetically through floral displays and explored through exhibitions, keynote speakers, a panel discussion and a screening of 'Water Whisperers Tangaroa'. The traditional 23+ metre Floral Carpet (in ChristChurch Cathedral 11 - 20 Feb) will be themed 'Where Streams of Living Water Flow' and other floral decorations, including Ikebana, a 'Water is Precious' Garden and topiary sculpture will also reflect the water theme.

Nitro Circus Live phenomenon to tour New Zealand for first ever time The all new touring sensation Nitro Circus Live, which performed to record breaking crowds throughout Australian capital cities in its worldwide debut this year, will tour New Zealand for the first time in February 2011. Heading the tour will be 17 times X games medalist and new world no. 1 FMX rider, Travis Pastrana on his first trip to New Zealand Joining Travis Pastrana (USA) will be the entire Nitro Circus crew from the hit MTV show including Jolene Van Vugt, Erik Roner, Jim De Champ, Special Gregg and Streetbike Tommy
Chinese Lantern Festival

Bring all the family to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit in Victoria Square, amidst hundreds of beautiful feature lanterns specially imported from China. Browse dozens of delicious food stalls and picnic on the grass.
Non-stop entertainment will include magical rod puppets from Sichuan, a jazz band from Shanghai, and rockband Askar Grey Wolf from China's far western Xinjiang province, fresh from a successful tour of Australia. The 7th Chinese Lantern Festival is brought to you by Asia New Zealand Foundation with support from Christchurch City Council and principal sponsor HSBC.
Pegasus NZ Women's Open

The Pegasus New Zealands Open hosted by Christchurch will be held for the second time on the newly constructed Pegasus Golf Course. This even is set to attract top players from around the world, given its co-sanction status with Ladie European and ALPG Tours and prize-money of $200,000. Englands' grand lady of Golf Laura Davies is defending chamption and she has won an amazing 5 titles this year, and the winning ways all started in Christchurch at the 2010 event.

SCAPE

The programme of public artworks will explore art in the city centre and prompt discussion about our urban environment. The inner city is both the site and subject for SCAPE 2010 addressing topics which include cities of the future, urban growth, sustainability and urban regeneration. Christchurch, like many cities all over the world, is looking to new urban planning and development models to create a more livable, populated and environmentally sustainable inner city. SCAPE 2010 artist projects will explore existing experiences and future projections of the inner city as a collective, civic space.

The horses of Spain are some of the most celebrated in history, favoured for centuries by European royalty, equestrian riders and bullfighters. This performance will celebrate the tradition, athleticism and grace of these revered creatures. Along with magnificent Stallions we present ‘The Mask of Zorro’ the stunt double in the movie with Antonio Banderras and Catherine Zeta Jones and the powerful Spanish flamenco dancers in authentic vibrant costumes and the mellow notes of a guitar to bring the sights and sounds of Spain a heartbeat away.

The New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival 2011

Old favourites and new faces feature in the line-up for this year's New Zealand International Jazz and Blues Festival.
An annual event, the Christchurch-based festival brings together the best jazz and blues musicians from around New Zealand and the world for five days and nights of musical magic.
Making his first appearance at the festival is gypsy guitar legend Lulo Reinhardt, with a four-piece band including European musicians. This will be Reinhardt's first ever concert in New Zealand and a unique chance for music-lovers to see one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world perform
